The SafeToOpen browser extension functions akin to having an information security expert alongside you, meticulously scanning for signs of potentially harmful web pages. This tool promptly alerts users to the risk level associated with a given page, providing reassurance when navigating safe sites.

Privacy is a cornerstone of the SafeToOpen design. The extension specifically examines web pages that solicit sensitive information, such as passwords, while deliberately excluding well-established and legitimate platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Importantly, SafeToOpen refrains from tracking users' browsing activities unless a suspicious site is identified. In such instances, the extension gathers:

• Your public IP address
• Your web browser name and version
• Your operating system name and version
• The suspicious URL for subsequent analysis
• The word count of the content on the suspicious web page

Following analysis, any identified suspicious URLs are anonymized, allowing only the domain name (the Fully Qualified Domain Name) to be displayed.
